Cameron Lopes

Athlete

Cameron Lopes is a Biology Pre-Med freshman at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) and a proud trailblazer on the historic XULA Rowing Crew, the first HBCU to ever launch a varsity co-ed rowing program.

A lifelong athlete, Cameron spent 12 years competing in soccer, ultimately captaining her high school team with grit, discipline, and heart. But when XULA opened the door to help build a first-of-its-kind rowing legacy, she didn’t hesitate. She stepped into the boathouse ready to make history and prove what’s possible for young Black women in a sport where representation has been far too limited.

Now balancing the intensity of a Pre-Med path with the demands of collegiate rowing, Cameron is driven by something bigger than herself. She rows to break barriers. She rows to elevate her community. And she rows to inspire the next generation of Black girls to see themselves in the boat—strong, powerful, and fully belonging.

Cameron isn’t just part of a new era of HBCU rowing. She is the era.
