Michaela Jones is a Division I rower at the University of California San Diego, where she is a sophomore majoring in Political Science on the pre-law track.
Rowing has been part of Michaela’s life for eight years, taking her through a wide range of programs that shaped her into the athlete she is today. She has trained and competed with NorCal Crew, Palo Alto Rowing Club, Redwood Scullers, Row West Racing Camp, Potomac Boat Club, the University of San Diego, and now UC San Diego. Each environment offered new coaching styles, team cultures, and training philosophies, expanding her perspective and sharpening her commitment to the sport.
Above all, Michaela rows to race. Competition is her fuel, and the thrill of lining up against the best continues to drive her passion. Her racing résumé includes a 2nd and 4th place finish at Youth Nationals, four Summer Nationals appearances with two bronze medals, and a 4th place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships.
She thrives in high-intensity, high-expectation environments where ambition is the norm and hard work is rewarded. Beyond the boathouse, Michaela is an avid strength athlete. She has been powerlifting since she was 14 and often lifts close to double her bodyweight—an anchor of her confidence, resilience, and athletic identity.
Michaela is also deeply committed to empowering women in sport. Having grown up facing discouragement and criticism for being an athlete, she now uses her platform to dismantle those barriers for the next generation. She wants young girls—especially those facing adversity or self-doubt—to know that their story in sport is theirs alone, and it deserves to be celebrated. Michaela firmly believes the future of sports is female, and she is proud to be part of that rising movement.
